To support you in this work, this week has you immersed in\u00a0 the CAL 501 Learning Intensive Design Challenge, continuing to work on your blog, the climate primer, and exploring resilience in the context of climate. Please consider this a living document as times for synchronous sessions may change dependent upon speaker availability etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5444\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/cals501-2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/152\/2021\/04\/noun_Document_1830667-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"30\" height=\"39\" \/> <\/strong><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial black, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Access the Week 2 Schedule (Google Document)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\">Activity 12 \u2013 Learning Intensive Week 2\u2013 Climate Change: Impacts, Adaptation, &amp; Policy<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Having completed readings related to the BC Heat dome (2021), in this synchronous session we will be joined by Brooks Hogya (BC Emergency Health; RRU Doctoral Candidate), to discuss the recent heat dome, as an example of climate impacts, and the policy and adaptation responses<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\">Activity 13 \u2013 Learning Intensive Week 2\u2013 Indigenous Scholar Small Group Conversations<\/h2>\n<p>Join into your small group conversation with our Indigenous scholars base on the time you signed up for on the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QDXPX1BzlnVB0BzU6yMy-bF_Zt5kwVld8mgwMPhyiu4\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up sheet<\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">\u00a0<\/span>this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Find a way that works for you to take notes and make observations as they will be helpful as you work with your team on the CAL 501 Design Challenge, and as you think about <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/cals501-2022\/assessment\/assignment-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Assignment 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\"><a id=\"W2A16\"><\/a>Activity 14 &#8211; Learning Intensive Week 2\u2013 Introducing Design Thinking Immersive<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Design thinking is a human-centered approach to problem solving that encourages innovation. The goal is to bring together diverse stakeholders and rights holders to work collaboratively to generate new thinking and new ideas that integrate the needs of those stakeholder\/rights holders in the design. During this synchronous facilitated activity you will engage in a design thinking immersive that introduces the core elements and processes of design thinking. You will engage in both plenary (class) synchronous, and team-synchronous time during this day long session. The timing and details will be provided in the session. There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.royalroads.ca\/moodle\/mod\/resource\/view.php?id=613315&amp;forceview=1\">worksheet<\/a> supporting this activity. Off-line breaks will be built into the day\u2019s schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\">Activity 15 &#8211; Learning Intensive Week 2\u2013 Jigsaw (distributed) Learning<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During this synchronous session you will\u00a0 share your draft summaries on the climate action competencies within your teams. After sharing, you will work collaboratively as a team to produce a short paragraph that (1) defines and describes each competency; and describes why and how it is relevant to climate action leadership. We will then return to the plenary to share these short paragraphs within the cohort, remembering that the purpose of this learning activity and assignment is to deepen the collective understanding of the cohort about climate action competencies in the ongoing exploration of climate action careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\"><a id=\"W2A16\"><\/a>Activity 16 &#8211; Learning Intensive Week 2\u2013 Climate Career Management Conversations<\/h2>\n<p>Each team will have a meeting with our MACAL career management coach. This provides an opportunity to explore tips for managing your learning and career in what is an emerging disciplinary area. Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QDXPX1BzlnVB0BzU6yMy-bF_Zt5kwVld8mgwMPhyiu4\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up sheet<\/a> if you cannot remember your appointment time.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\"><a id=\"W2A18\"><\/a>Activity 17 \u2013 Learning Intensive Week 2 \u2013 Draft Assignment 1 (optional)<\/h2>\n<p>Submit your draft of Assignment 1 to the <a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.royalroads.ca\/moodle\/mod\/assign\/view.php?id=593001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moodle dropbox Draft Assignment 1.<\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"> <span style=\"color: #000000\">Course instructor will provide you with some general formative feedback on the last day of the Learning Intensive for you to consider as you revise your draft.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\"><a id=\"W2A18\"><\/a>Activity 18\u2013 Learning Intensive Week 2 \u2013 Resilience in the Context of Climate Action<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this synchronous facilitated workshop, you will explore and reflect on the impact of climate change on our wellbeing, and how to sustain well being and resilience in the context of leading climate action.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\"><a id=\"W2A18\"><\/a>Activity 19\u2013 Learning Intensive Week 2 \u2013 Portfolio Learning in MA\/GD CAL<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this synchronous session, we will explore portfolio learning as a concept, and its application of portfolio learning in this program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 id=\"13\"><a id=\"W2A18\"><\/a>Activity 20\u2013 Learning Intensive Week 2 \u2013 Climate Action Leadership:<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this session we will bring together the learning to explore how it frames and informs your thinking about climate action leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each team will engage in a discussion using a <a href=\"https:\/\/jamboard.google.com\/d\/10CobMyjlsmw9UfIv69RO3N1oS2qb9LTidNlI5yeIyNE\/viewer?f=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">google jamboard<\/a> to explore the concept of climate action leadership. These discussions should draw on the learning thus far to explore and consider questions related to mindset,\u00a0 competencies, resilience, and opportunities and challenges such leadership may entail.
