Overview
The final touch point of MACAL501 course is framed by Unit 5 which focuses on synthesizing your transdisciplinary thinking related to climate action leadership and conversations on Western and Indigenous knowledges, theories, and perspectives on climate adaptation, climate justice, climate resilience, climate policy. This unit completes your DT challenge. Building on the course work completed to date and the focus of Unit 5, each team will showcase their work on the MACAL 501 design challenge (Steps 1 – 9) and share it with the wider community via a presentation and blog post.

- Unit 5 Activity 1 – Read Unit 5 readings
- Unit 5 Activity 2 – Attend Synchronous Seminar
- Unit 5 Activity 3 – Meet with your team to continue your work on the MACAL 501 design challenge through the design showcase and to discuss the feedback received and the iterations you would suggest.
- Unit 5 Activity 4– Contribute to the MACAL course community.
- Assignment 7 – Design Showcase video blog post & reflection.
Unit 5 – Activity 1 | Readings and Preparation
Please read the assigned Unit 5 readings in advance of the Wednesday pm seminar in order to participate in deepening the dialogue and analysis of the topics discussed.
Due to the focus on the MACAL 501 design challenge, the readings for this unit will be driven by what is identified by the focus of the design challenge and the stage at which you at with the design challenge. In addition, there may be a reading that is required in advance of the Unit 5 Seminar (synchronous) which will be determined by the Unit 5 speaker(s) and the Course Instructor.
Unit 5 – Activity 2 | Seminar (synchronous)
Please attend the Unit 5 Seminar, Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday June 8th, 16:00-17:30 PT. Each team will present on one of these days; you are encouraged to attend both sessions if you can. These sessions provides an opportunity to reflect further on ideas related to communication and knowledge mobilization, and to share and discuss your design thinking challenge output (Assignment 7) in a supportive environment, and get some feedback and suggestions, prior to finalizing the showcase video and your blog posts and reflections. Join via CALS 501 Zoom (found in Learning Community of CALS 501 Moodle)

Your team is now taking what you did in the Learning Intensive and showcasing it to the wider community for feedback. This is the invitation of Assignment 7 (see the description).
Unit 5 – Activity 4 | Contribute to the MACAL course community
Take time to review and comment on other blogs posts. Focus on asking good questions and listening for understanding. Be a critical friend to your peers as you give feedback on their solutions.
