This will include a history of the concepts of resilience and a discussion of the various contexts in which it has been applied. Additional perspectives (e.g., financial risk, Indigenous perspectives) will be used to situate the concept more broadly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relationship between resilience, risk, and sustainability will be explored using examples from literature and practice, and also through critical discussion and assignments. It is not always clear if and how these concepts interact, and disentangling is essential in operationalizing these concepts in one\u2019s work.&nbsp; This unit is also an opportunity to begin to explore key concepts and examples relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion <em>vis a vis<\/em> resilience assessments and planning. These concepts continue to evolve alongside more widespread commitments to equity and reconciliation, and situating one\u2019s understanding of risk and resilience within this context is essential in creating risk and resilience efforts that are circumspect, effective, and equitable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activities and Assessment Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Complete <a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.royalroads.ca\/moodle\/mod\/book\/view.php?id=597455&amp;chapterid=222714\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Unit 1 readings<\/a>\u00a0<\/li><li>Begin <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/cals603\/assessment\/assignment-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assignment 1<\/a><\/li><li>Contribute to the MACAL course community by posting questions, comments, and reflections in the course discussion forum<a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.royalroads.ca\/moodle\/mod\/forum\/view.php?id=597463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">.<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activity 1: Complete Required Readings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The readings for this unit focus on theoretical conceptualizations of risk and resilience.
