{"id":117,"date":"2021-11-14T22:37:22","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T06:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/?page_id=117"},"modified":"2021-11-19T19:49:24","modified_gmt":"2021-11-20T03:49:24","slug":"activity-2-needs-rights-at-home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/activity-2-needs-rights-at-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Activity 2: Needs &amp; Rights at Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Activity 2: Needs &amp; Rights at Home<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Why we like it:<\/strong> This activity helps students to link needs to rights and to recognize them at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you will need:<\/strong> House of Rights Handout, UNICEF child-friendly Convention on the Rights of the Child, pencil, crayons\/markers<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long:<\/strong> 30-40 min<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Independently or in pairs\/small groups, ask students to draw things that they like or want in their home (\u2018in the roof of the house\u2019).<\/li>\n<li>Ask students to draw what they \u2018need\u2019 in the main part of the house<\/li>\n<li>Look at the UNICEF child-friendly Convention on the Rights of the Child<\/li>\n<li>Ask students to write the numbers attached to different child rights and match<br \/>\nthem to the drawings (e.g. Apple = Article 27).<\/li>\n<li>Invite students to share their houses with classmates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reflection:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What did you put in the roof (wants) and in the main part of your house (needs)?<\/li>\n<li>Which rights did you match to the \u2018needs\u2019 in your house?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tips &amp; variations:<\/strong> Walk through the Convention on the Rights of the Child together, cut out the icons to glue matching them onto the house.
