{"id":169,"date":"2021-11-14T23:46:21","date_gmt":"2021-11-15T07:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/?page_id=169"},"modified":"2021-11-25T19:48:47","modified_gmt":"2021-11-26T03:48:47","slug":"activity-6-draw-a-postcard-to-the-mayor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/activity-6-draw-a-postcard-to-the-mayor\/","title":{"rendered":"Activity 6: Draw a Postcard to the Mayor"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Act<\/strong>ivity 6: Draw a Postcard to the Mayor<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Why we like it:<\/strong> This activity encourages children to express their ideas about<br \/>\nwhat rights are important to them and to share it with an important decision<br \/>\nmaker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you need:<\/strong> Child rights postcard (ideally printed on firmer paper), pencils and<br \/>\ncrayons; reference of the United Nations Child Friendly Convention on the Rights<br \/>\nof the Child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long:<\/strong> 10-20 minutes<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remind students about the 4 Bs &#8211; right to be healthy, safe, heard and to be<br \/>\nourselves. Discuss what each of these things mean.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Invite students to pick 1-2 rights that they think are especially important to<br \/>\nthem. Draw them on the postcard.<\/li>\n<li>On the back, include the student\u2019s name first name only is fine).<br \/>\nShare the postcards with the International Institute for Child Rights and<br \/>\nDevelopment. Why?<\/li>\n<li>As a class, which rights did we think are the most important?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tips &amp; variations:<\/strong> Some students have used this postcard activity to write about<br \/>\nimportant issues affecting their rights.
