It is also<br \/>\nan inspiring example of children using her rights to make the world a safer and<br \/>\nmore just.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you will need:<\/strong> Ability to watch film and space to discuss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long:<\/strong> 10-20 minutes<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Watch: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.ca\/en\/policy-advocacy-for-children\/about-the-convention-on-the-rights-of-the-child\">UNICEF\u2019s Just a Kid<\/a> (*Trigger warning, this video gently introduces the<br \/>\ntravesties of violent conflict) (1.40 seconds)<\/li>\n<li>n small groups, ask students to discuss the reflection questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reflective questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What rights stood out for you? Which rights were being called for? [Prompt: to<br \/>\nbe heard, safety, to life, to have family, free from violence, education, to a<br \/>\nhealth environment].<\/li>\n<li>How did these children make change? [Prompts: participation, sharing opinions<br \/>\nand experiences, having a voice].<\/li>\n<li>Can you share an example of someone you know that is helping to make a<br \/>\ndifference for other children? What are they doing that is interesting or<br \/>\ninspiring? How did adults help?<\/li>\n<li>Example: Students at Oaklands Elementary did research and gave tickets to<br \/>\ncars parked on a yellow line blocking the crosswalk in front of the school. Their<br \/>\nvoices and efforts helped to make walking to school safer.
