{"id":199,"date":"2021-11-15T22:48:42","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T06:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/?page_id=199"},"modified":"2021-11-19T22:20:56","modified_gmt":"2021-11-20T06:20:56","slug":"199-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/199-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Activity 7: Rights Radio (adapted from National Child Day- Guide)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Activity 7: Rights Radio (adapted from National Child Day &#8211; Guide)<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Why we like it<\/strong>: This is good activity because it asks students to explore how<br \/>\nrights are part of their everyday lives and to participate in advocating for rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long:<\/strong> This is best if done over several sessions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preparation: Ask students to think of real news or fictional stories about<br \/>\nchildren who had their rights respected or denied (as an example, the young<br \/>\npeople featured in the video in Activity 7 or a character in their favourite book,<br \/>\nmovie or game).<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0In groups, ask students to work on developing a radio broadcast to be live on<br \/>\nNational Children\u2019s Day. Have the students put together a short broadcast of<br \/>\nthese children\u2019s rights stories. Ask them to include at least one Article from the<br \/>\nUN Convention on the Rights of the Child in their story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reflection:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What were the rights that were most noticeable? What actions were taken to<br \/>\nsupport those rights?
