Understand the meaning behind the United Nations Convention on the Rights of<br \/>\nthe Child (UNCRC) and World Children\u2019s Day, focusing on the right to be healthy,<br \/>\nsafe, heard and be myself. They will explore how children\u2019s rights are respected<br \/>\nin Canada and around the world.<br \/>\n2. Discuss \u2018needs\u2019 and \u2018wants\u2019 and how they relate to \u2018rights\u2019.<br \/>\n3. Explore what the words \u2018rights\u2019 and \u2018responsibility\u2019 mean, how they are related to<br \/>\nchild rights and identify the people who are responsible for child rights.<br \/>\n4. Here are a few suggested activities that might work for your students based on each learning goal listed above. We encourage you to choose the ones that will work best in your classroom and with your students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quick energizer &#8211; Children\u2019s rights word cloud<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask students to come up with as many words as they can about children\u2019s rights<br \/>\nand the rights they think children have. Add these words to an online Word Cloud<br \/>\nGenerator (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/worditout.com\">worditout.com<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/wordle.net\">wordle.net<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/wordclouds.com\">wordclouds.com<\/a>) and project<br \/>\nit while it creates your Word Cloud.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Learning Outcome 1 &#8211; Understand the right to be healthy, safe, heard and be<br \/>\nmyself.<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Key Activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/activity-1-needs-rights-at-home-create-a-bulletin-board-or-wall\/\">Activity 1: Needs &amp; Rights at Home (Create a Bulletin Board or Wall)<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/childthrive\/activity-2-we-are-all-born-free-adapted-from-we-are-all-born-free-amnesty-uk\/\">Activity 2: We are all born free<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Learning Outcome 2: Discuss wants, needs, and rights.<\/h2>\n<p>Share key points (foundational knowledge) about child rights, the United Nations<br \/>\nConvention on the Rights of the Child, and how we can come together to celebrate<br \/>\nWorld Children\u2019s Day in our class.
