Kaltura My Media Upgrade

Update: Note that the Kaltura My Media Upgrade has been postponed from April 19th to May 16th. Dates below have been updated (old dates have strikethrough applied).

Kaltura MyMedia is the video platform used within Moodle at Royal Roads. On Tuesday, April 19th Monday, May 16th 2022, Kaltura will be copying/moving videos from the legacy UBC servers to the new Canadian Cloud-based servers, which will improve the speed and reliability of this service and enable new features.

After Moodle switches to the cloud-based service on April 19th May 16th, links and embedded videos created using the old UBC-based system will no longer work. All media will still reside in your My Media library in Moodle and you will be able to update links and embedded videos wherever they are found on Moodle. We will also be employing a third party service to revise links and embedded video between April 20th May 17th and May 3rd May 30th, 2022.

What should I do?

Now is a great time to delete videos in My Media that aren’t needed.

Do you have a course running in Moodle between Wednesday, April 20th Tuesday May 17th and Tuesday, May 3rd Monday, May 30th?

  • Check  if you have any videos that might be affected. Are they all yours? Have any been placed by your program staff or a previous instructor?
  • Do you have any assignments or activities using My Media due around this time?
  • Starting on April 20th May 17th, replace embedded videos in your course if you are able to edit, between April 20th May 17th and May 3rd May 30th. Your CTET liaison can help.
