Kory is responsible for the Sociology department within the School of University Studies, Career Programs and Academic Upgrading. Within this role she designs and delivers all Sociology course offerings. Despite beginning her career only two years prior, she has quickly made an impact on the students she mentors and collaborates with. Accompanying her role in University Studies, she is an active member of Keyano College’s Research Ethic Boards.

Prior to joining Keyano, Kory spent six years in Corvallis, Oregon at Oregon State University where she exceled as a student and an athlete. In her short duration at the university, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Leadership in which she minored in Leadership, a Bachelor of Sociology concentrated in Crime and Justice and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with Sociology serving as her primary disciple followed by Education and Adult Higher Education. Cheshire’s graduate research focused on anti-racist education and course development aimed at reducing racial bias among students. In conjunction with her Masters, Cheshire earned a Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching.

Alongside her academic achievements, Kory was a notable part of the Women’s Volleyball program as a key performer and leader as team captain. Recognized for her achievements, she was awarded several accolades by Oregon State University and the PAC-12 Conference, with Female Scholar Athlete of the Year being one of the most distinguished. After her final season, Cheshire moved to Switzerland where she continued her volleyball career professionally before settling back home.

Kory’s doctoral research aims to expand upon her graduate research into racial inequality in higher education-based settings. She is keen to discover how implementing anti-racist education into andragogy can challenge and improve subconscious racial bias among students through course design and delivery. Cheshire’s focus will be to investigate the extent higher education can positively influence racial and ethnic inequities.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https://commons.royalroads.ca/dsocsciprogrampage/wp-content/uploads/sites/139/2022/12/Kory-Cheshire.png” alt=”Chafika’s photo” title_text=”Kory Cheshire” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Picture” _builder_version=”4.19.3″ width=”100%” custom_margin=”|||” custom_margin_tablet=”0px|0px|0px|0px|true|true” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”30px|40px||10px|false|false” animation_style=”slide” animation_direction=”top” animation_intensity_slide=”5%” animation=”top” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_color=”#ffffff” custom_padding=”35px||35px|40px|false|false” border_width_top=”1px” border_color_top=”#f5f5f5″ collapsed=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”40px||||false|false” collapsed=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Previous Link” _builder_version=”4.19.4″ hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]

« 2022 Winter Cohort

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Next Link” _builder_version=”4.19.4″ global_colors_info=”{}”]

Rachel Claus »

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Kory Cheshire is a newly recruited instructor for Keyano College in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
