Shawna is a member of the \u0141u\u0301ts\u00ebl K’e\u0301 Dene First Nation, located on the shores of Great Slave Lake in the beautiful Northwest Territories.\u00a0 Shawna is a proud D\u00ebnes\u0173\u0142\u0131\u0328n\u00e9<\/em>\/Ukrainian raised in Edmonton, with a strong connection to her family.\u00a0 She has 20 years of experience in Corporate Management\/Finance and operations with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.\u00a0 As well, she has volunteered with various Indigenous organizations, currently as an executive board member working at the grassroots levels to supporting and advocating for and representing all urban Indigenous peoples regardless of status under the Indian Act. \u00a0Shawna obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology in 2015, through Concordia University of Edmonton, as well in 2022 obtained the Master of Arts in Global Leadership Degree through Royal Roads University (RRU); with a focus on Indigenous language revitalization and creating strategies to retain and rejuvenate the D\u00ebnes\u0173\u0142\u0131\u0328n\u00e9<\/em> \u00a0(\u144c\u14c0\u14f2\u14a2\u1544\u14c0), D\u00ebne\u00a0Yati<\/em>\u00a0(\u144c\u14c0 \u152d\u1571).\u00a0 \u00a0Currently Shawna is continuing her research on Indigenous language revitalization through a land-based focus, an Indigenized and environmentally focused approach, one which is a culturally expansive of the physical, spiritual, and mental connection to the land.\u00a0 This project is a heartfelt desire to give back to her maternal community and her children, grandchildren, and future generations, supporting strategies to retain the language which is spoken for generations.\u00a0 Her late mom, Emerence, attended Residential school from age 4-18, yet proudly retained her D\u00ebnes\u0173\u0142\u0131\u0328n\u00e9 language and culture, one which she lovingly shared, as she could.\u00a0 The path to reconciliation, continues within this academic journey.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”2_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/commons.royalroads.ca\/dsocsciprogrampage\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/139\/2022\/12\/Shawna-Yamkovy.png” alt=”Chafika’s photo” title_text=”Shawna Yamkovy” align_tablet=”center” align_phone=”” align_last_edited=”on|desktop” admin_label=”Picture” _builder_version=”4.19.3″ width=”100%” custom_margin=”|||” custom_margin_tablet=”0px|0px|0px|0px|true|true” custom_margin_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_padding=”30px|40px||10px|false|false” animation_style=”slide” animation_direction=”top” animation_intensity_slide=”5%” animation=”top” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row disabled_on=”off|off|off” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_color=”#ffffff” custom_padding=”35px||35px|40px|false|false” border_width_top=”1px” border_color_top=”#f5f5f5″ collapsed=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”40px||||false|false” collapsed=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Previous Link” _builder_version=”4.19.4″ hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]\n
