Joanna Burris is a second-year student in the Master of Arts in Climate Action Leadership program at Royal Roads University. She grew up and has lived most of her life in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded home of the Mi’kmaq. Joanna feels blessed to live in this beautiful place and is grateful to the Mi’kmaq, and particularly the grassroots grandmothers and water protectors, for their stewardship of the land and water and for their unceasing advocacy to protect Mother Earth for future generations. Water is life.

Joanna Burris has worked as the Sustainability Planner for the Municipality of Colchester since 2018, leading Colchester’s emissions reduction and climate resilience initiatives. She enjoys paddleboarding, crafting, and singing in choirs in her hometown of Truro, NS.
