Simplified access to books and articles

Royal Roads University Library is excited to introduce Lean Library Access, a helpful new browser extension (add-on) that gives you quick and simple online access to academic articles, journals and databases licensed by RRU Library—anywhere, anytime. Whether you’re on or off-campus, Lean Library Access connects you directly to materials the library has access to. Spend less time searching for sources and more time doing your work. Install the extension, select your institution, and you’re ready to go.

How does it work?

The Lean Library Access extension identifies when you are on an academic website that contains material licensed by RRU Library and notifies you with a pop-up. (Prefer to skip the pop-ups? You can change your settings to automate your access.) A single click opens the site; log in with your RRU username and password for access. If RRU doesn’t seem to have access to the item you’re looking at, the Lean Library Access extension will automatically check for open access versions or redirect you to our Interlibrary Loan Request Form.

Ready to get started?

Visit the Lean Library Access download page

Install the extension (please ensure you have the latest version of your browser installed)

Select Royal Roads University (your institution)

Leave “skip the pop-up and automate my access” unchecked to retain control over when to use the library’s proxy—or check it to be automatically redirected when proxy access is available.

Log in with your RRU username and password when prompted.

What about privacy?

You will remain completely anonymous. The Library Access browser extension doesn’t collect any personal information unless you actively share it, and it doesn’t collect your IP address or your device’s unique device IDs. You can find the privacy statement for the extension here.
