You may have seen President Steenkamp’s statement on Twitter in response to the recent tragedy in London, Ontario. Our hearts are with the Muslim community and everyone affected by this devastating and deadly act of hatred. Islamophobia has no place in our communities, and yet we are once again tragically reminded of its pervasive threat.

Let’s consider the words of London Mayor, Ed Holder: “this was an act of mass murder perpetrated against Muslims against Londoners and rooted in unspeakable hatred…[t]his act of Islamophobia, this act of unspeakable hatred, must be followed by acts of compassion, by acts of kindness, acts of humanity, acts of solidarity, empathy, justice but above all, love.”

We must come together and actively work to confront discrimination, racism, and violence of all kinds in all of our communities.

We stand with our Muslim students, faculty, and staff.  Please reach out if you wish or need to talk, or book a session with RRU’s counselling services.
