Learning Intensive Week 2 – Schedule
This is the most current detailed scheduled for Week 2 of the Learning Intensive. Please consider this a living document as times for synchronous sessions may change dependent upon speaker availability etc.
Access the Week 2 Schedule (Google Document)
Activity 12 – Learning Intensive Week 2– Climate Change: Impacts, Adaptation, & Policy
Having completed readings related to the BC Heat dome (2021), in this synchronous session we will be joined by Brooks Hogya (BC Emergency Health; RRU Doctoral Candidate), to discuss the recent heat dome, as an example of climate impacts, and the policy and adaptation responses
Activity 13 – Learning Intensive Week 2– Indigenous Scholar Small Group Conversations
Join into your small group conversation with our Indigenous scholars base on the time you signed up for on the sign up sheet this past weekend.
Find a way that works for you to take notes and make observations as they will be helpful as you work with your team on the CAL 501 Design Challenge, and as you think about Assignment 1.
Activity 14 – Learning Intensive Week 2– Introducing Design Thinking Immersive
Design thinking is a human-centered approach to problem solving that encourages innovation. The goal is to bring together diverse stakeholders and rights holders to work collaboratively to generate new thinking and new ideas that integrate the needs of those stakeholder/rights holders in the design. During this synchronous facilitated activity you will engage in a design thinking immersive that introduces the core elements and processes of design thinking. You will engage in both plenary (class) synchronous, and team-synchronous time during this day long session. The timing and details will be provided in the session. There is a worksheet supporting this activity. Off-line breaks will be built into the day’s schedule.
Activity 15 – Learning Intensive Week 2– Jigsaw (distributed) Learning
During this synchronous session you will share your draft summaries on the climate action competencies within your teams. After sharing, you will work collaboratively as a team to produce a short paragraph that (1) defines and describes each competency; and describes why and how it is relevant to climate action leadership. We will then return to the plenary to share these short paragraphs within the cohort, remembering that the purpose of this learning activity and assignment is to deepen the collective understanding of the cohort about climate action competencies in the ongoing exploration of climate action careers.
Activity 16 – Learning Intensive Week 2– Climate Career Management Conversations
Each team will have a meeting with our MACAL career management coach. This provides an opportunity to explore tips for managing your learning and career in what is an emerging disciplinary area. Check the sign up sheet if you cannot remember your appointment time.
Activity 17 – Learning Intensive Week 2 – Draft Assignment 1 (optional)
Submit your draft of Assignment 1 to the Moodle dropbox Draft Assignment 1. Course instructor will provide you with some general formative feedback on the last day of the Learning Intensive for you to consider as you revise your draft.
Activity 18– Learning Intensive Week 2 – Resilience in the Context of Climate Action
In this synchronous facilitated workshop, you will explore and reflect on the impact of climate change on our wellbeing, and how to sustain well being and resilience in the context of leading climate action.
Activity 19– Learning Intensive Week 2 – Portfolio Learning in MA/GD CAL
In this synchronous session, we will explore portfolio learning as a concept, and its application of portfolio learning in this program.
Activity 20– Learning Intensive Week 2 – Climate Action Leadership:
In this session we will bring together the learning to explore how it frames and informs your thinking about climate action leadership.
Each team will engage in a discussion using a google jamboard to explore the concept of climate action leadership. These discussions should draw on the learning thus far to explore and consider questions related to mindset, competencies, resilience, and opportunities and challenges such leadership may entail. Following these team based explorations, we will return to the plenary to share insights and ideas.
