Assignment 4: Content Remix (Individual)

This assignment will build on Assignment 3 to adapt or iterate your previous piece in two ways: first, you will reformat the information to address a different audience; second, you must include an additional aspect of of accessibility for your audiences. For example, if you make a series of Instagram posts, you will need to include alt-text for the images, or if you produce a podcast episode, you will need to include transcripts. This assignment will be posted to your blog to help you develop your public-facing communication strategy and presence.

Instructions:

  1. Using your work from Assignment 3, modify it so that it engages a new audience from what was originally intended, whether that is to translate it to a different age or user group, or for a different market or readership, among many other possibilities. Maybe in the original piece you wrote for parents and framed your argument or story about their children’s future, which now you could translate to engaging directly with youth about their futures, for example. Or perhaps you wrote a proposal to be considered by a town council, and now you can adapt it to speak to the town’s citizens. The idea is to take the core narrative thread of Assingment 3, and begin to iterate it such that it can be translated to other audiences. Clearly indicate what your original audience was and what your new intended audience is.
  2. To facilitate this process, refer to the available information from your peers (on Moodle) from their second assignment, which will have outlined different considerations to account for when working with particular audiences. Review their work to get a sense of what a different audience will require from your work if you are unclear.
  3. Finally, make this new version of your work available with an additional form of access to be inclusive of multiple forms of accessibility. In other words, using the above example of translating content to youth, you could start with a text-based approach initially, and then record this as an audio file for people who have different learning or communication needs. This can mean, for example, creating a blog post AND a video of that content or a blog post AND a series of accessible TikTok videos. The combination is entirely your choice, but the overall assignment must address a new audience that differs from that of the audience you worked with for Assignment 3, and also must include a secondary accessibility format.
  4. All materials are to be posted to your blog by August 10, 11:55 PDT.

Requirements:

  • Step 1: Produce a new version of Assignment 3 with a different audience in mind. Ideally complete in Week 8.
  • Step 2: Reformat this new version to address an audience with different accessibility needs. Complete in Week 9.
  • Step 3: Share this work on your blog.

Assessment Criteria:

  1. (Step 1) Significant shift in audience (learning outcome 3.1, 5.1)
  2. (Step 2) Effectively addressing accessibility in at least two ways (learning outcome 5.2)
  3. Organized publication on your blog (learning outcome 5.3)
  4. Use of currently accepted APA formatting (learning outcome 2.2)
