Bill Sparling

I am a “senior” student, returning to complete my Doctorate after being out of the academic world for some time.  I served a great many years in the Canadian Armed Forces, doing a great many things in a great many places; in short, I’ve “been there, done that”. Academically, I earned my Advanced BA at the University of Manitoba, a Master of Arts in War Studies (Royal Military College), and a Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management (Royal Roads).  Along the way, I have also accumulated a number of other certificates, diplomas and qualifications. I am presently the Safety and Environment Officer for two CAF educational and training facilities on Vancouver Island (combined, they are the 5th largest CAF training facility in Canada), with locations throughout Southern Vancouver Island. My intended area of research is dealing with the inclusion of persons with autism in Disaster Risk Reduction (provision of emergency and disaster service) with direct affect on social systems and structures in British Columbia – possibly the entire country.
