David Okpi

My name is David Ohana Okpi (He/Him). I am originally from Nigeria and currently reside in Victoria, British Columbia with my wife and kids for the purpose of my doctoral program.

Previously, I served as Senior Social Welfare Officer with Lagos State Government in the Ministry of Youth Social Development Alausa Ikeja for nine years. With expertise in child development, family social services, educational consultant and administration. As a Correctional officer with Lagos State Government, Nigeria. I conducted psychosocial therapy for children in various circumstances and successfully improved therapeutic outcomes for children, leading to more effective rehabilitation. I hold Master degree in Social Work from Lagos State University, Ojo in 2022, Bachelor degree in Sociology from University of Calabar in 2013 and Diploma in Personnel Management from University of Calabar in 2006. I am currently enrolled in Doctor of social sciences program at Royal Roads University

My decision to pursue Doctorate degree in Social Sciences at Royal Roads University was to strengthen my research abilities and transition into academia, utilizing the knowledge from the studies to contribute to the field of social sciences in Nigeria
My research interest Centre’s on Prospect and Challenges of Child Protection Law in Curbing Child Abuse and more specifically to identify factors responsible for prevalent increase in child Abuse or abandonment and its adverse effect on children and providing pragmatic solutions to address the phenomenon
