Kristine Monteiro
I am a dynamic service industry leader, educator, and event professional with a passion for fostering Alberta’s economic growth. I bring over 25 years of experience in event operations and business management, cultivated through extensive experience in academia and hospitality management. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of the Philippines (2000) and a Diploma in Hospitality Management from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) (2008). In 2014, I completed my Master of Arts in Tourism Management at Royal Roads University.
I am an instructor and curriculum developer in the Hospitality Management Program at the JR Shaw School of Business at NAIT. It is a full circle moment that I am now teaching the same program I took as an international student in Canada. Since 2013, I have designed and delivered outcome-based courses covering various topics in event and tourism management.
My research interests are in film tourism, specifically film-induced tourism as an economic driver in destination development. I am currently collaborating with industry and destination management organizations in Alberta to explore the lifespan of a film’s influence on travel trends and how rural communities may benefit from its longevity.
When not immersed in academic pursuits, you can find me supporting local food and beverage outlets or escaping to warm, sunny and off-the-beaten-path tourist destinations with my husband.
