Lan Luong
Lan strives to live wholeheartedly; living life powerfully and a life she loves. Lan lived in Saskatchewan for over a decade when she arrived to Canada at the age of 5 with her family before moving to British Columbia, where she currently resides in the lower mainland. Lan frequently visits family in Saskatchewan, loves to travel, enjoys nature, and is a foodie. Most importantly, Lan is passionate about creating and supporting structures and processes for the highest quality care for clients, families, and communities. Utilizing her highly developed adaptive leadership strategies and creative skills in research, visioning, planning, mentoring, and coaching individuals and teams to achieve possibilities and results. Lan is an educator, public health nurse and entrepreneur. She owns and operates a specialized care home for high-risk youth for over a decade. Lan also owns and operates Nurse Next Door South Surrey/White Rock, providing private home health care services to the community. Lan teaches public health, community/home health, and leadership in the BSN program at BCIT; she was on the Board of Governors and served as term lead on the curriculum and program review committee, supporting faculty and students.
Lan has an advanced certified practice in community health nursing, STI/Contraceptive Management certified (2013), and is a lactation consultant (2014). Lan holds a Master’s degree in Leadership (Health Specialization) from Royal Roads University (2017) and Canadian Health Executive certification (2018) from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. Lan has a Bachelor’s degree (1997) in psychology and criminology from Simon Fraser University as well as nursing from British Columbia Institute of Technology (2009). Currently, Lan is pursuing her doctoral studies on women and leadership. Lan’s mission is to leverage her doctoral studies to elevate the lives of women and secure their rightful place and voice at the table in leadership, whether leading from the bottom, middle or top. Equity for women in leadership has long been a passion for Lan, personally and professoinally.
Lan is a trained Daring Way Facilitator (2019), leading workshops on vulnerability, shame resilience, empathy, and courage. Lan has worked on many community projects such as redesigning youth clinics to improve services and access. Lan has a background in psychiatry, enjoys teaching and is a lifelong learner. Lan worked on a Pilot Projects working closely with clients with severe addiction and mental illness, providing trauma informed care, motivational interviewing, and health care services. Designing, implementing, and evaluating health initiatives to optimize best health outcomes is a driving force for Lan. She applies appreciative inquiry, highly developed executive and creative problem-solving skills, and proven management strategies to lead complex change by engaging all system partners to achieve common desired results through values-based/servant leadership.
