Shevaun Voisin
I have shone light, dissolved boundaries, and challenged the status quo as a teacher, property developer, professional boxing manager, publisher, and registered psychotherapist. Passionate about community leadership, I have sat on the Board of Directors for Leadership Waterloo Region and Extend A Family, and as a committee member for both Wilfrid Laurier’s Arts Advisory Board and The Citizen Advisory Committee at Grand Valley Institute for Women. I am the recipient of the Women of Influence Local Hero Award, Business Leader Award for the City of Kitchener, Rogers Woman of the Year Award for Entrepreneurship, and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation Outstanding Mentor Award for the Province of Ontario. I have been invited to speak about the perception of risk and the power of audacity, at Canada’s Top 10 Event, TEDxPennQuarter in Washington, D.C., and in Montreal, Quebec at TEDxWestmount. I am a proud graduate of both Wilfrid Laurier University earning a Master of Arts in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy (2024), Honours Bachelor of Arts in English (1992), and a Bachelor of Education (1994) from Queen’s University. Passionate about the psychology of human potential and curious to research the risk taking attributes of entrepreneurs, I am excited to pursue my Doctorate in Social Science from Royal Roads University. My proposed research is focused on the intersection between perceived risk taking in entrepreneurs and early childhood exposure to learning hardiness, resourcefulness, and optimism. My research will explore the necessary correlation in acquiring cognitive flexibility as a protective factor against anxiety and depression.
