January is generally the time of year when the Diversity Action Group likes to consider our events calendar for the coming year.  There are a number of dates coming up in the next three months, including:

  • January 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • January 27, International Holocaust Remembrance Day
  • January 31, Bell Let’s Talk Day
  • February 1, Lunar New Year
  • March 19, Holi
  • March 21, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
  • March 22, Norooz
  • March 31, International Transgender Day of Visibility

And on a larger scale:

  • February is Black History Month
  • March is Women’s History Month

Typically, DAG facilitates some form of event or education campaign for the above dates.

 

And so, we have some questions for you:

  • Are you interested in helping to plan an event? If so, which event? Email diversity@royalroads.ca and we will connect you with other planners
  • Are you interested in drafting an educational/information article or post for any of these dates? If so, email diversity@royalroads.ca
  • Are you interested in being part of something, but perhaps not leading it? If so, email diversity@royalroads.ca and we will connect you with those who have indicated an interest in leading something
  • Is there a day or date that hasn’t been mentioned that you would like to promote or support? If so, email diversity@royalroads.ca and let us know

Anyone who is interested in helping to plan an event or activity can also sign-up on the DAG Events Google Doc!  This document includes events that span the entire year (and anyone can edit/add to it).

 

ALSO/OR: Would you be interested in being the Events Coordinator, which would involve monitoring the Google calendar, assisting with call-outs to volunteers, and helping set up event planning groups, but wouldn’t involve planning the actual events? If so, email diversity@royalroads.ca and let us know.

And if you don’t have much event planning experience, don’t worry – many hands make light work, and really it is just a great way to connect with others J
