National Coming Out Day celebrates the strength and courage of those who have come out (and who continue to on a daily basis). It is a day that helps to develop safer spaces for those who are considering coming out. It is a day that educates and raises awareness to a person’s ability to be themselves without judgement or discrimination. This year’s theme is Born to Shine. For more information on the history of National Coming Out Day, please explore the Human Rights Campaign’s website and resources.

This year, National Coming Out Day falls on a day that RRU is also acknowledging World Mental Health Day and Light Up Purple. To promote wellbeing, safety and inclusion, the Diversity Action Group and RRU’s Counselling & Learning Strategy Team invite all members of the RRU Community to wear purple on Tuesday October 11th.

At Royal Roads, RRU Proud offers a safe and inclusive network for students, faculty and staff at RRU. RRU Proud hosts Positive Space Network workshop at various times throughout the year, both online and face-to-face. This is a low-risk interactive workshop that engages participants in discussion around language, culture and assumptions. Participants are introduced to skills and strategies that will help them contribute to the creation of safer and more inclusive environments for all members of the Royal Roads community. At the end of the workshop, participants will be presented with the opportunity to of join the Positive Space Network and become an RRU Proud Resource Person.

If you would like to be notified of upcoming workshops, please email RRU Proud.

Pride at Work also provides a variety of resources and workshops on topics such as, “Coming Out & Psychological Safety at Work”.
