David Top

Hello,
My name is David Luoy Top, and I am a Doctor of Social Sciences Student. Originally from Sudan, now residing in Calgary, Canada. Lived in Kenya as a refugee for almost 6 years. I arrived in Canada in 1999 and have since made Calgary my home.

I hold a Bachelor of Management degree and three years a completed my MA in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University, graduating in the Class of 2021.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I am currently working as the Leader of Anti-Racism for the City of Calgary at the Calgary Housing Company (CHC). I am also dedicated to volunteer work and proudly hold the position of Managing Director for Research and Social Justice at the Komkan Africana Institute. I had the good fortune to conduct research for the City of Calgary in 202, which focused on comprehending the detrimental impact of racism in obstructing the seamless integration of Black African Canadians into their new home, specifically in the province of Alberta, Canada.

With over a decade of experience in international community development, peacebuilding and conflict resolution, I have developed a deep passion for addressing social justice issues. My research interests lie in the areas of conflict resolution and social justice, and my current doctoral research focuses on the efficacy and use of empathetic dialogue to resolve conflicts and social justice issues in racially diverse communities and workplaces.

I am excited to embark on this doctoral journey and look forward to contributing to the field of conflict resolution and social justice through my research and practical experiences.
