Donnie Oulton

I currently work at the Department of National Defence (DND) in the National Security and Intelligence Review and Oversight Coordination Secretariat (NSIROCS) as a Senior Analyst. I transitioned to this position in 2022 after serving 28 years in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

I enrolled in the Reserve Force in April 1994 as a Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC) officer and served in various roles at the community, regional and national level in support of the CAF’s Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers (CJCR) program. I held the positions of Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) Strategic Plans & Senior Advisor at the CJCR Group Headquarters prior to my retirement from the CAF in July 2022.

My major career accomplishments include receiving the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) in 2006 and 1st clasp in 2016, the Vice Chief of Defence Staff Commendation in 2010, the DND/CAF Ombudsman’s Liz Hoffman Memorial Commendation in 2012, and the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation in 2019.

I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Francis Xavier (1998) and Master of Public Administration (Management) from Dalhousie University (2011). I am currently enrolled in the Doctor of Social Sciences program at Royal Roads University.

My research focuses on exploring the concept of destructive leadership within organizations, beginning with the DND/CAF. Theoretically, my work aims to advance the evolving literature on destructive leadership. Practically, I aspire to provide actionable insights that help organizations prevent and mitigate the negative consequences of destructive leadership.

I am originally from Moncton, New Brunswick and currently reside in Ottawa, Ontario with my beautiful wife Adriana and our two wonderful children, Leah, and Logan.
