Lorrie Cramb
I bring more than three decades of clinical, academic, and policy leadership experience across provincial, national and international settings. I currently serve as the Provincial Chief Allied Health Officer and Executive Director of the Allied Health Policy Secretariat at the BC Ministry of Health. Appointed in July 2023—the first role of its kind in both British Columbia and Canada—I provide strategic direction and stewardship for allied health workforce policy and practice across the province. A key milestone in this role was leading the development and public release of British Columbia’s first Allied Health Strategic Plan in December 2023. The plan outlines priority actions across four pillars of the health workforce: recruitment, retention, education and training, and workforce redesign.
My doctoral research builds on international best practice and my extensive experience in health care and government policy to examine power, professions, and inequities within the allied health workforce in Canada, with particular attention to how these dynamics shape workforce planning, policy development, and leadership structures.
Through this work, I aim to:
- advance equity oriented strategies for health workforce planning, policy, and leadership
- contribute a distinctly Canadian perspective to the literature on professional hierarchies, workforce sustainability, interprofessional collaboration, and health system transformation, and
- advocate for greater inclusion, voice, and recognition of allied health professionals in health system governance and decision making
I hold a BSc in Dietetics (1991), a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Education (1997), and a Master’s of Adult Education (1999) from the University of British Columbia.
