Unit 9: Communicating the business case

Overview

(Week 9)

Ultimately, a business case is a communicative act intended to persuade decision-makers to undertake a particular course of action.  Even the best strategy might be rejected if it is unclear or uninterpretable. In our final unit, you’ll focus on communicating the business case.

You’ll explore three main factors:

  1. The extent to which the business case successfully responds to the organizational context (from Unit 2);
  2. The organization and representation of the underlying argument in the business case, including the appropriate use of research and analysis (from Units 3 – 8);
  3. The format and presentation of the case, including elements of visual rhetoric and data storytelling.

Your final product in the course will be a polished, written business case prepared for the live client.
