Overview
For the internship you have both an Academic Supervisor (the instructor for this course) and a Host Organization or Internship Supervisor. Each unit of this course will include learning activities (unmarked but required) and Assignments (marked).
Before the start of your internship hours, take the time to map out these course deliverables.
Also connect with your Academic Supervisor and agree on how you will work together, and consider what will be supportive for you to successfully complete your internship and course. Set aside time to read and research, to consult with peers and experts, revisit concepts from previous courses and learning opportunities.
What will help you stay present during your internship?

Unit1 – Activity 1
Presenting… a climate action minded organisation
This activity invites you to find out more about your internship host organization and what they do and share with your peers and instructor. This could be a profile of the whole organization or focused on a particular department or theme. You might draw on public documents, e.g., the company website or outreach materials, news articles, and you may consider having informational informal professional conversations related to the organization (be mindful of research ethics, this is not intended to be primary data collection). Focus on climate forward action that the organization (or people within the organization) does and that you consider to be representative of climate action leadership.
Prepare a short presentation to share within this course, addressing the prompts listed below. This can be done as a video (using Kaltura) of approximately 3-4 minutes with the link posted in a forum thread below, or a text-based post of no more than 500 words to a forum thread. Each student should initiate a unique thread.
Consider the key guiding questions (prompts) for your activity are:
- Develop a vision (Eagle): What is the organisation all about? What is climate forward action conducted there? Who are climate action leaders within the organization? How does the organization represent as a climate action leader within their scope of practice?
- Gather Information (Heron): What defines this organisation and the people within it? What brings the people in this organisation/field of work together, what holds them apart? Who contributes to climate action and how? What do you consider most relevant for you to know about the organization/people?
- Identify Knowledge (Owl): What do you know about organization and its people? Where can you find more information? Who knows more that you can talk to informally? What resources are available to you?
- Share your Voice (Loon): What do you see in this organization? How do they make a difference? What is your vision for moving in climate action for this organization?
