Overview
For this assignment you’ll read chapters 2 and 7 of “Decolonizing Methodologies” by Linda Tuhiwai Smith, as well as the readings by Reed and Kendrick (2018), and Whitney (2020). Focusing primarily on chapters 2 and 7, please summarize the key takeaways that resonated with you, and reflect of how these insights help you question and assess your own assumptions or approaches to research and/or practice. The purpose of this assignment is to deepen your understanding of the ways that colonialism have and continue to shape inquiry and practice so that your climate risk assessment work is culturally sensitive.
Instructions:
- Focus primarily on Tuhiwai Smith’s work, using Reed and Kendrick (2018), and Whitney (2020) to provide one or two additional insights that complement or challenge Tuhiwai Smith’s work.
- Summarize the key insights you’re taking away from the texts. Describe how these insights help you question and assess your own assumptions or approaches to research. You could even include and example of two of how you anticipate applying these in your own work.
- You have the option of producing a short 250-word blog post about this assignment that is part of your participation grade for the course. You could also create a topic in the discussion forum. If contributing to a Moodle discussion or offering feedback on a peer’s work, review the Effective Feedback resources to better understand and shape your feedback as constructive.
Requirements:
- Your reflection must be submitted as a Word document with a maximum word count of 700 words.
- All external sources must be acknowledged using the APA format for in-text citations and references.
- The assignment must be submitted on or before the due date.
