Hillary Samson
Hillary Samson provides strategic operations and business planning consulting through her companies Samson Consulting and Transforming Ventures. Samson works primarily with women- and Indigenous-led social enterprises that focus on creating a more livable and inclusive world while continuing to be financially sustainable. Key projects include: managing operations for Great Bear Rainforest Essential Oils (owned by the Nuxalk Nation), which creates sustainably harvested essential oils in Bella Coola; and a feasibility study for Vancity Credit Union and PHS Community Services on low-barrier banking for community members that face challenges accessing financial services due to homelessness, mental health, addictions, and other barriers.
Samson’s doctoral research will be in the area of “reimagining capitalism”, an emerging field that studies the shift from maximizing shareholder value to a model of shared value with all stakeholders. Her specific research will take a multidisciplinary approach to examine how wisdom and teachings that cross time and culture, such as interconnectedness and sovereignty, can support companies to more deeply embed their purpose and operationalize their values; her research will investigate which governance and business models could best support these structural changes to realize shared value in organizations.
Samson holds a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature) from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Business Administration (Entrepreneurship) from the University of Victoria.
