Jason Major

Jason A. Major is a recently retired Colonel from the Royal Canadian Air Force with over 30 years of service as a pilot.  He is highly experienced in operations and command coupled with staff experience at the strategic level.  In the RCAF headquarters as a Director, he helped optimize a multi-billion-dollar enterprise with over 400 aircraft and 20,000 personnel. In his previous position with NORAD, he planned and trained with some of the highest levels of military and government leadership to build readiness and trusted interagency partnerships.  Jason holds several decorations from the military including the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation for exceptional leadership while serving as a Task Force Commander.

Major believes the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a significant shock and period of uncertainty to the aviation industry in Canada.  While some research has been done in other countries, there is a lack of research specific to Canada regarding lessons learned and best practices that could help the airlines and airport operators. His research will review the impact from COVID-19 on the international aviation industry, present best practices and lessons learned that may be available from operators around the world, and offer recommendations specific to the Canadian aviation industry that could make air travel both safer for Canadians, and less risky for aviation companies going forward.

Major holds a Bachelor of Commerce (94) and a Master of Arts in Security, Defence Management and Policy (2008) from the Royal Military College of Canada.
