Mekoya Wondrad
Mekoya Wondrad is an independent consulting professional mining engineer, who is currently managing MEDYAS Mine Planning & Design Services since May 2017.
Prior to this, Wondrad worked in various senior technical and management roles for Barrick Gold, Freeport, Goldcorp and other middle tier mining companies. His 30 years plus, academic and industry combined mining engineering experiences has taken him to 4 continents, 13 countries and 15 mining companies.
His research focuses on Organizational Change Management for “All-Inclusive” Sustainable and Innovative Mining Development and Operation.
Mekoya’s doctoral research will investigate and identify the problems that are associated with current mining sustainable development operations at remote mining communities.
The research, by understanding the underlying root causes associated with mining sustainable development at remote mining communities, aims to provide innovative and all-inclusive sustainable development solutions which is beneficial to all the stakeholders involved.
Wondrad has a BSc. and a MSc. in Mining Engineering from Laurentian and Queens Universities in Sudbury and Kingston Ontario Canada, respectively. He also has an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wm.V.S. Tubman College of Technology in Liberia. Mekoya is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and British Columbia.
He is part of the Ethiopian Canadian Network for Advocacy and Support and current chairman of the Ethiopian Association in London Ontario. Mekoya likes reading, writing, walking, and golfing.
