Jim Murphy

James Paul Murphy (Jim) is a senior wealth planning consultant with BMO Private Wealth. Jim has over 30 years of professional experience in the wealth management industry. Jim is responsible for ensuring that high net worth and ultra high net worth clients receive the best tax, estate, business succession, retirement and philanthropic advice custom tailored to suit their multigenerational family’s needs. Jim is a leader on his team and in his community in the largest market in Canada. 

Jim has taught at the Canadian Securities Institute and Seneca College in Toronto as well as delivered Junior Achievement Programs to Toronto area schools and seminars on tax and estate planning for advisors and business owners. Jim enjoys time with his family, sailing and playing hockey. 

Jim holds an MBA Financial Services (2014) Rowe School of Management Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Toronto (1983).

Jim has many industry courses and designations: Certified Financial Planner (CFP©), Professional Certification from FP Canada; Trust and Estate Practitioner, Diploma (TEP) Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP); Chartered International Wealth Manager (CIWM©), Diploma, Chartered Investment Manager (CIM©), Fellow in the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI©) from the Canadian Securities Institute. Jim’s doctoral research will be investigating the issues related to financial literacy and the ethics of financial services sales practices related to financial products.
