Nadeem’s doctoral research will focus on the effectiveness of conventional strategic planning at Canadian universities in the face of rapidly evolving technological and operating contexts. The shifting economic, social, political and demographics continue to impact Canadian universities. Canadian universities are faced with emerging technologies, long-lasting impacts of a global pandemic and evolving attitudes towards work, geo-politics, employment and human mobility. In addition, universities are faced with ever evolving, intersecting and often competing demands from various external and internal stakeholders. These factors combined with mounting funding cuts, legislation, proliferation of online, on-demand, self-study educational materials and the changing societal attitudes towards the value of higher education make for an increasingly complex operating environment. This situation is further complicated by the pace of technological innovation which makes for an operating context that is shifting and evolving at a much more rapid pace than it did in the previous decades. The current context and the anticipated landscape over the next foreseeable future presents an opportunity to explore the practice of strategic planning at Canadian universities.
Nadeem is a certified general accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce in accounting from Mount Allison University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Laurentian University.
