Neil Cody
Neil Cody is a faculty member of the business department at the Nova Scotia Community College, where he specializes in entrepreneurship and technology. Cody leads the highly competitive, campus Enactus team in an effort to promote the Enactus Canada mission of shaping generations of entrepreneurial leaders passionate about advancing the economic, social and environmental health of Canada. For his efforts he was named as a John Dobson Enactus Fellow in 2017 and his team has been recognized on the regional and national level for their extensive work in combating climate change, empowering youth through entrepreneurship and promoting financial literacy.
Outside of education, Cody’s primary focus has been in the tech start-up/analytics industries, where he has ran a successful crowd funding platform for amateur athletes, cofounded a company that modernized supply chain workflow processes within the oil and gas sector, and worked as a business analyst helping to implement and integrate Obamacare in North Carolina.
Cody’s doctoral research stems from an article he once read stating “despite a great increase in the number of students enrolling in higher education, specifically at community colleges, the successful completion rates for these students has remained static since the 1970s”. Cody’s research will focus on the use of gamification to increase engagement and the role it might play in mitigating the negative impact of the novelty effect. This research aims to explore learner engagement and success, enhance the practical depth of the educational experience offered to the learners and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery, resulting in students/employees who are better prepared to make an immediate, meaningful impact within industry.
Cody holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick (2012), a Bachelor of Education from the University of Maine at Fort Kent (2007), and a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University (2005). He also received his diploma in Post Secondary Education from NSCC (2017).
