Activity 1: Introducing Rights- Giggles and ‘I Have the Right to be A Child’ Video
Why we like it: Starring, Giggles the puppet, this introductory video introduces
the ideas of children’s rights and provides a good foundation for other activities.
What you will need: A projector and the video link.
How long: 15-20 minutes
How it works:
- Introduce children to children’s rights.
- Play the video featuring an overview of children’s rights and story time.
- If possible, showcase the Child Friendly United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Poster. Share key points about child rights, United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and how we can come together to celebrate World Children’s Day in our class.
- Hang a copy of the Child Friendly Poster on the UNCRC on the wall to remind students about their rights.
Reflection:
- What did you notice about the video?
- What rights did you hear?
Note: that these rights are set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, an agreement almost all countries in the world have agreed to respect and protect.
