As the demands of climate leadership evolve almost daily, leaders need to be able to analyze and assess examples or case studies of leadership in action to inform their own practice.
For this assignment, you’ll seek out a recent example or case study of climate action leadership from a white paper, organization or news article, and analyze it to determine what worked well and what could have been done better.
This may include identifying things like:
- specific leadership tools or approaches that proved to be effective
- key actors who were excluded from the work
- hidden biases or assumptions that influenced the approach
- systemic or cultural barriers that were overcome or hindered progress
- inter- and trans-disciplinary activities that unlocked new insights
- Indigenous perspectives that shifted narratives or negotiations.
Deliverable
- A 1250 word (approximately 5-pages, double spaced APA) paper analyzing and assessing the leadership approach in the case study.
Assessment criteria
- Does the paper clearly identify the role of the leader/leadership in the success of the initiative? (Learning outcome C) 30%
- Do the analysis and assessment go beyond surface observations to identify critical obstacles to leading change in a complex environment? (Learning outcome A) 40%
- Does the paper offer compelling insights about what the leader could have done better? (Learning outcome A) 30%
