An exploration of new and emerging leadership models for a just transition.
Overview
This unit introduces students to leadership approaches that attempt to integrate key elements of leading change to address the challenges identified in Unit One. In so doing, they also attempt to disrupt many Western leadership norms that have directly or indirectly generated the injustices and imbalances that we now need to correct.
While some newer leadership models may seem ill-defined or relatively unproven, others, like Indigenous leadership approaches, are supported by long histories of effective practices. Students will be invited to analyze and assess each approach to determine what parts of it could work well for leading change to support climate progress, and how it could be better.
Specific leadership approaches reviewed may include:
- Indigenous leadership
- Regenerative leadership
- Inter & transdisciplinary leadership
- Adaptive leadership
- Systems leadership
Learning Outcomes
