Overview
This unit includes the last synchronous session before the break for students to work on their projects for Assignment 3. Having explored a variety of leadership models earlier, the discussion will zoom in on the nitty-gritty of leading change to identify specific tools students can use to support their work.
Today’s leaders must be must more agile, collaborative, creative, empathetic and future-focused than ever before. This requires both a shift in mindset and tactics to design and lead change, particularly when dealing with a complex issue like climate change.
In addition to a review of design thinking, which was introduced earlier in the MACAL program, this unit will explore the following change leadership tools, which students may want to incorporate into their work on Assignment Three.
- Strategic foresight
- Behavioural economics
- Appreciative Inquiry
- Narrative change
Learning Outcomes
A. Anticipate and respond to the personal, social, organizational, and contextual factors that could undermine or derail change.
D. Communicate alternative futures in a way that motivates, supports, and enables growth at multiple scales (individual, organizational, collective).
