Assignment 1 marks and feedback

by Denise Withers.

Hi all,

I hope you had a good weekend! I wanted to let you know that I've submitted the marks for Assignment 1. You should each get notes from me along with a copy of your paper with a few comments.

I really enjoyed reading about the case studies and how well you think they worked! It’s clear that you ALL have some great insights about leadership to share.

That said, some of you are struggling to make those ideas clear. So I thought I'd offer these few writing tips in case they're helpful going forward:

  • Create a bullet-point outline with sections and key ideas BEFORE you start writing.

  • Make sure the structure and key ideas in that outline line up with the assignment’s requirements.

  • Refer to the assessment guide for the assignment to be sure you cover everything. (I can’t emphasize this enough). Use a checklist if you have to.

  • Don’t be afraid to use clear language as a guidepost to walk the reader through the paper. If part of the assignment is to identify what the leader could have done better, it’s okay to use that wording as a sub-header or opening sentence to a paragraph. “As for an analysis of what the leader could have done better …”

  • Worry less about filling the paper with academic references and more about making your ideas clear. (References support your ideas or statements, and don't have much value if those ideas aren't clear in the first place).

  • Use Grammarly or spell-check when you’re done.

If you’d like to share your case study, please go ahead and post it in the Resource Sharing Forum.

Great work overall - looking forward to reading more of your work!

Best,

Denise
